Malaysian Dead Leaf Mantis
Deroplatys lobata
MantisintermediateHarmless
No venom, no sting
Mantises are harmless to humans. They have no venom or sting — the worst they can do is grip with their spined forelegs or deliver a startling but harmless nip.
About
A spectacular dead-leaf mimic — flattened, mottled brown, with a dramatic startle display. A touch more demanding than the giant green mantises: it needs higher, steady humidity (60-80%) and rough bark/sticks at a diagonal for safe molting, as it's prone to mis-molts if kept too dry. Warm (75-86°F), tall, well-ventilated enclosure. House individually; harmless to humans.
